Bold Text Generator
A bold text generator turns plain letters into bold Unicode characters, such as ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ in serif, ๐๐ผ๐น๐ฑ in sans and ๐๐ธ๐ต๐ญ in script. Type below and copy the style you want for a bio, post or message in an app that has no bold button.

Make bold text in three steps
- Type your words in the box. Digits are made bold too in the serif and sans rows.
- Pick a style. Sans is the plainest, serif looks like a heading, and script and fraktur add decoration.
- Press Copy and paste. If the app already has a bold button, use that instead and keep your text searchable. Next, see the italic text generator for the slanted styles.
The bold alphabets in Unicode
Bold letters live in the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, U+1D400โU+1D7FF. They were added for math notation, and apps that show them now use them as a styling trick. Each style has capitals, small letters, and sometimes digits.
| Style | Example | Letters | Bold digits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bold serif | ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐ | U+1D400โU+1D433 | Yes, U+1D7CE |
| Bold sans | ๐๐ผ๐น๐ฑ ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฏ | U+1D5D4โU+1D607 | Yes, U+1D7EC |
| Bold italic serif | ๐ฉ๐๐๐ | U+1D468โU+1D49B | No |
| Bold italic sans | ๐ฝ๐ค๐ก๐ | U+1D63CโU+1D66F | No |
| Bold script | ๐๐ธ๐ต๐ญ | U+1D4D0โU+1D503 | No |
| Bold fraktur | ๐ญ๐๐๐ | U+1D56CโU+1D59F | No |

Real bold in apps that support it
Many apps format bold from short markers or a shortcut. These keep the text as ordinary letters, which is better for search and screen readers, so they are the first choice where they exist.
| App | Type this | How |
|---|---|---|
| *bold* | Asterisks around the words | |
| Slack | *bold* | Asterisks around the words |
| Discord | **bold** | Two asterisks on each side |
| Telegram | **bold** | Or choose Bold from the formatting menu |
| Markdown and GitHub | **bold** | Two asterisks or two underscores |
| HTML | <strong>bold</strong> | The strong tag |
| Word and Google Docs | Ctrl+B | Select the text first |
Where Unicode bold is the only option
Unicode bold is useful in fields that have no formatting at all, such as a profile bio, a username display field, a button label or a plain-text message. In these places it is the only way to add weight.
What to watch for
- Search. A page title or post in bold letters will not match a search for the plain word.
- Screen readers. Each bold letter may be read as “mathematical bold” plus the letter, so long text takes a long time to hear.
- Width. Bold sans letters are wider than plain ones, so a name can reach a character or pixel limit sooner.

Device check
The letters are copied exactly as shown, and the code ranges are in the table. We have not yet tested them on specific phones or systems. If a style shows as boxes, email [email protected] with the style, device and system version. More styles are on fonts.
Frequently asked questions
Is Unicode bold the same as real bold?
No. Real bold is formatting applied to normal letters. Unicode bold swaps each letter for a different character that looks heavy, so it pastes anywhere but is not found by a search for the plain word.
Do numbers have bold forms?
Yes. Bold serif digits are ๐ to ๐ at U+1D7CEโU+1D7D7 and bold sans digits are ๐ฌ to ๐ต at U+1D7ECโU+1D7F5. The tool converts digits in those two styles.
When should I use the app’s own bold instead?
Whenever the app has one: WhatsApp and Slack use *text*, Discord and Telegram use **text**, and word processors use Ctrl+B. Real bold keeps your words searchable and readable by screen readers.
Which bold style is the best for a name?
Bold sans is the cleanest and is easy to read at small sizes. Bold script and bold fraktur are more decorative and harder to read, so they suit a word or two.
