Analog Clock
This analog clock shows the live time from your device with an hour hand, a minute hand and a red second hand. Pick a style, go full screen, or switch on learn mode to drag the hands and read the time in words, such as quarter past three.

Use the clock in three steps
- Watch the live time, or pick a style: classic numbers, minimal ticks, Roman numerals or a dark face.
- Press Full screen to show it large on a wall display or a classroom screen.
- Turn on Learn mode and drag a hand. The words under the time say what the clock shows.
How the hands move
An analog clock is geometry. The minute hand turns 360 degrees in an hour, which is 6 degrees every minute. The hour hand turns 360 degrees in twelve hours, which is 30 degrees every hour and half a degree every minute. The second hand turns 6 degrees every second. The table shows where the hour and minute hands point at six sample times, measured from 12 going clockwise.
| Time | Hour hand angle | Minute hand angle |
|---|---|---|
| 12:00 | 0° | 0° |
| 3:00 | 90° | 0° |
| 6:30 | 195° | 180° |
| 9:15 | 277.5° | 90° |
| 12:45 | 22.5° | 270° |
| 4:20 | 130° | 120° |

Telling the time in words
We say the time in a few set patterns. On the hour it is o’clock. At 15 minutes it is quarter past, at 30 it is half past, and at 45 it is quarter to the next hour. Between the hour and the half hour we count minutes past, such as ten past two. After the half hour we count minutes to the next hour, such as twenty to five. Learn mode uses the same patterns, so children can see how the position of the long hand gives the words. See also: time now.
Why the hour hand sits between numbers
At 3:30 the hour hand is halfway between 3 and 4, not on 3. That is because the hour hand moves a little every minute, half a degree each. If you see the hour hand exactly on a number, the minute hand must be at 12. This is a useful check when you read a clock.

Accuracy and limits
The clock follows your device clock and your device’s time zone. It does not correct for a clock that is set wrong. The hands update once a second, and a background tab may update less often in some browsers. We have not yet tested every phone and browser, so tell us if the hands do not move on yours at [email protected]. Go back to OxoApp for more tools.
Frequently asked questions
Is it analog or analogue?
Both are correct. Analog is the usual spelling in American English and analogue is common in British English. The word means a clock that shows time with hands on a dial, not with digits.
How does learn mode work?
Turn on Learn mode and drag the minute hand or the hour hand. The clock moves the other hand as a real clock does, and writes the time in digits and in words, such as half past six.
Does the clock use my device time?
Yes. The live clock reads your device’s clock and its time zone, so if your device time is wrong, the clock is wrong too.
How do I read an analog clock?
Look at the short hand for the hour and the long hand for the minutes. Each number on the dial is five minutes, so the long hand on 3 means 15 past. The thin red hand counts seconds.
