Roll the dice in three steps

- Press Roll. Each die is shown with its value, and six-sided dice show real die faces.
- Read the total, copy the result with Copy result, or look at the list of your last rolls.
Odds of each sum with two dice
Two six-sided dice make 36 equally likely combinations. The sums are not equally likely, because some sums can be made in more ways. The table counts the combinations for each sum.

Average roll of one die
The average of a die with n sides is (n + 1) ÷ 2. Over many rolls, a six-sided die averages 3.5 and a twenty-sided die averages 10.5. The average of several dice is the sum of their averages, so two six-sided dice average 7.

Dice for games
- Two six-sided dice (2d6): a common choice in board games, where a sum of 7 is the most likely roll.
- Five six-sided dice (5d6): for games that roll five dice at once and keep or re-roll some.
- One twenty-sided die (1d20): often used in role-playing games, where every number from 1 to 20 has the same chance.
The result is for games and fun. Do not use it for gambling or for any draw where money or prizes are at stake.

Is the dice roller random?
Yes. Each die uses your browser’s secure random generator, which is designed for unpredictability. Every face of a die has the same chance.
What is the most likely roll with two dice?
7. Six of the 36 combinations add to 7, so it comes up one time in six. 2 and 12 each have only one combination, so they come up one time in 36.
What does 2d6 mean?
It means roll two six-sided dice and add them. The first number is how many dice, and the number after the d is how many sides each has. 1d20 is one twenty-sided die.
Which dice do board games and role-playing games use?
Many board games use one or two six-sided dice. Role-playing games often use a twenty-sided die for checks, and sets also include four, eight, ten and twelve-sided dice.
