Bullet lists without a formatting button
Some apps have no list formatting. A social post, a bio and a plain message field are examples. A bullet list there is just a symbol at the start of each line. The list tool above builds that text for you, with a line break between items. If an app removes or joins the breaks when you paste, paste the text into the app’s own editor and add the breaks by hand. We have not tested every app, so check a short sample first.

Choosing a marker
- • bullet: the standard, and safe everywhere.
- ◦ white bullet and ‣ triangular bullet: use them for a second level under •.
- ✓ check mark: for done items or benefits. More marks are on the asterisk and typography symbols page.
- ➢ and → arrows: for steps that lead somewhere.
- ■ □ ▪ ▫ squares: for a strong, clean look in headings.
Bullet, middle dot and bullet operator
Three characters look similar and are used differently. The bullet • (U+2022) starts a list item. The middle dot · (U+00B7) separates words or numbers in a line, as in Home · About · Contact. The bullet operator ∙ (U+2219) is a math sign for multiplication. Use the right one for each job, and note that a search treats them as different characters.

Device check
The markers are copied exactly as shown, with the code in the tables. We have not yet tested them on specific phones or systems. If one appears as a box, email [email protected] with the character, device and system version. More groups are on the symbols page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I type a bullet point?
On Windows, hold Alt and type 0149 on the number pad, or Alt+7 in some apps. On a Mac, press Option+8. On a phone, copy the bullet from this page or find it in the symbols keyboard.
Why do my line breaks disappear when I paste?
Some apps and fields remove line breaks, or join lines, when you paste. Paste the list into the app’s own text box, not a note app, and add the breaks by hand if needed. We have not tested every app.
What is the difference between • and ·?
• is the bullet, U+2022, and is larger and round. · is the middle dot, U+00B7, which is smaller and used as a separator. ∙ is the bullet operator from math.
Which bullet is best for a social post?
• and ✓ are drawn on almost every device, so they are the safe choices. Less common markers such as ‣ and ⁃ may show as boxes on older systems.
